50 Baby Turtles: Balihoneymoon.com Giving Back to the Community

In 2025, Balihoneymoon.com had one of the best company growth periods we’ve ever had. We rebranded the company from Bali Honeymoon Guide to Balihoneymoon.com, expanded our team in each department, and started working from our office in Ubud. With everything we’ve achieved, we felt it was the right time to give back to what we have received from our surroundings, whether it’s our community or our nature.

December 2025 was the perfect time to close the year by giving back to the community. We chose to support one of our partners, Saba Asri Turtle Conservation, a self-funded sea turtle conservation initiative founded by a local fisherman, Made Kikik, and located at Saba Beach, Gianyar, Bali.

For anyone who has visited Bali, it’s no surprise to see many stray dogs roaming neighborhoods, streets, and beaches. Along the coastline, these dogs often dig up turtle nests and eat the eggs. This initiative was created to protect sea turtles from these threats and to increase their chances of survival.

We chose Saba Asri Turtle Conservation not only because we’ve been partnering with them since the foundation of our company, but also because, as a travel agency, we not only bring visitors to enjoy nature, but also believe it’s our responsibility to help protect it. Supporting conservation is our way of balancing the impact of tourism with positive action for the environment.

On December 8, the Balihoneymoon.com team headed to Saba Asri Turtle Conservation, where we met the conservation team, had a tour of the place, and shared conversations about what giving back truly means to us.

The conservation process is very simple, yet it requires consistent care. The first step is collecting turtle eggs during the laying season, which usually happens from March to September, when turtles come ashore at night to lay their eggs. Since we visited in December, we didn’t have the opportunity to collect the eggs, but the team showed us what turtle nests look like and educated us on how to identify them, so we’re more aware if we ever come across one along the coastline.

The next step is incubation, which takes around 45–50 days, with a success rate of up to 80%, unless the eggs are unhealthy. The nests are covered with fishing nets to protect the eggs and baby turtles from predators such as dogs and birds. Turtles that are injured, sick, or born with disabilities go through a treatment period and are kept in the sanctuary’s pond until they fully recover and are ready to be released into the ocean.

After learning about the process, we moved on to our main goal of releasing the baby turtles into the ocean. We decided to release 50 baby turtles because it represents the number of couples we have welcomed this year. Each turtle symbolizes one couple we had the privilege to plan and support throughout their honeymoon journey with us, Balihoneymoon.com. Naturally, baby turtles return to the ocean within 24 hours after hatching, following their instinct to reach the sea. However, keeping them for a few days or weeks helps protect them from predators, weather conditions, and other risks, giving them a better chance of survival once released. Releasing 50 baby turtles became a meaningful way to close our year, as it reflects our commitment to giving back to the local community and supporting initiatives that protect Bali’s natural environment. By contributing to local sea turtle conservation, we support local partners and help preserve the ecosystem that sustains coastal communities. This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to social responsibility, making sure that our work creates a positive impact not only for our clients but also for the people and the environment.
