Spectacular Private Pool Jungle Villas

We were lucky enough to spend a night at The Ridge Bali - a small boutique resort with only 5 villas, but with spectacular views. While we have visited or inspected at least 20 resorts around Ubud (the perks of running a Bali Honeymoon site), we can confidentially say this one has the best views. In addition, the service-level is top-notch, with a butler standby at all times. Let us share our review!

Location: Ubud’s best view

The Ayung River Valley is the most majestic of all of Ubud. It’s the biggest river, used for rafting as well, and offers some of the widest views. As The Ridge is facing West, you will experience a spectacular sunset at night. You will have even better views than at the neighbouring Four Seasons resort, as The Ridge is located higher up the ridge (hence the name!).

Located West of Ubud town, it’s a 10 minute drive to downtown Ubud if there’s no traffic. However, do note that the road to Ubud often does get congested - but that is an issue you would face in all jungle stays around Ubud.

Our Premier River View Villa

Where to start. With 145 square meters (1560 square foot if any Americans read this), our villa was massive. The patio featured a pool, bath tub, day bed as well as dining area where we enjoyed afternoon tea. The villa is modern with wooden finishing, and has a spacious bathroom with rain shower.

We got to enjoy a lot of perks - which you would get if you stay at this villa too: a fresh fruit basket in the room, very generous afternoon tea (with savory and sweet snacks), dangerously tasty home-made cookies (we ate all of them). We didn’t experience it ourselves, but a stay at The Ridge also includes a complimentary 30-minute massage.

Other villas

While we only experienced the Premier River View Villa ourselves, there are some other good options at The Ridge as well. The Deluxe Ridge View Villa and Premier Ridge View Villa feature a private pool as well. The Premier is quite a bit larger (140sqm vs 96sqm) and offers views similar to our River View villa, while the view from the Deluxe is party blocked by the villas in front - however that is the most economical option to stay at The Ridge.

To understand the different room types better, The Ridge has 5 villa’s at three levels. The lower the level, the better the view.

  • Middle level: Premium Ridge View Villa
  • Bottom level: Premium River View Villa

Sayan Valley Restaurant & Breakfast

The Sayan Valley Restaurant offers the same wide views as our Premier River View Villa, and welcomes outside guests as well. The menu offers seafood, grill, and small dishes for sharing. We enjoyed breakfast here (generous with coffee, juice, fruit platter and a-la-carte choice of dishes), but have not yet tried the restaurant for dinner (have you? let us know how it was!).

With only a handful of tables, the restaurant gave us an intimate feeling. Consider visiting during sunset for cocktails, which sets around 6PM in Bali.

Honeymoon Amenities

The Ridge offers a honeymoon package for stays of at least 2 nights, which include a 120-minute couple massage, honeymoon flower decorations, a private 3-course romantic dinner in your own villa, as well as sunset cocktails and a bottle of sparkling wine.

How to book

We suggest booking your stay directly at the hotel website. This also allows you to book the honeymoon package with the amenities mentioned above - something that is not possible if you book through one of third party websites like Booking.com. Do note that the villas often get booked out far in advance, so we suggest booking your stay well in advance!

If you just would like to enjoy the view without staying overnight, you can book a table at their Sayan Valley restaurant for dinner or sunset cocktails. While walk-in guests are welcome, reserving a table in advance makes sure there is space for you, as there are only a few tables!
